What is an Editor For?
Editors are here to hype you up and elevate your writing! What that looks like is checking for little details such as word choice and sentence flow, to story comprehension and genre markers that speak to your audience. Some believe that the process of putting your work to an editor means intense scrutiny, but let me put that fear to rest. We can look at the big picture, little details, or both, and we offer feedback about what works, what could be improved, or what does not work at all.
Editorial suggestions are just that, suggestions. The choice to utilise those suggestions are left with the writer. At least, that's how it's done here at Twisted Leaf Editing.
We will never force you to change something that you feel is vital to the story you are telling. (Unless you've elected to use the completely wrong word, i.e. there, their, they're).
Twisted Leaf Editing also have an open dialogue with clients. I am free to discuss any suggestion with you, and I also listen to you when you wish for a more thorough look at certain areas of your manuscript. Communication is key!
Again, editorial suggestions are just suggestions, if you feel like they don't serve you, you're free to ignore, and if you're inspired by the suggestions you are free to run with it. At the end of the day, this is to serve you and your writing.
At the end of the day, this is a partnership between editor and writer, not a lecture, not a telling off, and certainly not a dictatorship.
Shoot for the moon, we editors will support you!
